Angelman Syndrome Awareness Drive with UBCO

We just finished our 6th annual Awareness Drive in the US. This year marked our longest journey yet. We embarked on this adventure in our new camper complete with a custom wrap raising awareness for Angelman Syndrome. The wrap showcases all our amazing sponsors, including UBCO!

For those who may not know, Angelman Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects approximately 500,000 people worldwide, including our son, Matthew. Since 2019, our family has been dedicated to raising awareness for this condition, and for the past two years, we've had a fantastic companion on our journeys: the UBCO 2X2 electric motorbike.

This trusty two-wheeler has become more than just a mode of transportation; it's a conversation starter and a symbol of the incredible support we've encountered on the road.

Hitting the Road with the UBCO

This year, we ditched the traditional towed vehicle and opted for the mounted UBCO on the back of our camper. It definitely turned heads! We met countless individuals at RV parks who were curious about the electric bike, and several even had the chance to test it out for themselves. Who knows, maybe we sparked a few new UBCO fans!

But the real gems of this trip were the unexpected connections we made.

Connecting with Key Players

While out exploring, I was stopped by Officer Sam, the Chief of Police himself! Intrigued by the UBCO, he inquired about its features and even took it for a spin. He saw the potential for electric bikes as patrol vehicles within his department.
Similarly, we met a family who asked about the bike. The mother, working in a security team, was also looking for alternative transportation solutions for her team. Needless to say, I passed on UBCO’s contact details!

In conclusion, the UBCO 2x2 Bike has proven to be an indispensable asset for our annual awareness drives. Its portability, eco-friendly operation, and versatility in different environments have significantly enhanced our mobility and outreach capabilities. This electric bike has become an integral part of our efforts, allowing us to connect with communities, run errands efficiently, and promote our message in a sustainable manner.

The UBCO: A Lifesaver

Our journey wasn't without its hiccups. During our first stop in Durant, Oklahoma, disaster struck when the camper's hydraulics malfunctioned. With the slides extended and no way to retract them, we faced a potentially expensive situation.
Fortunately, the UBCO came to the rescue! Thanks to YouTube tutorials and the bike's agility, I was able to zip into town, purchase the necessary fluids, and restore the camper's functionality. This DIY fix saved us a hefty $1,000 tow truck bill!

A Brush with Danger, and the UBCO's Resilience

The UBCO's usefulness wasn't limited to errands. During the Angelman Syndrome symposium in Ohio, I used it for quick trips to grab essentials. On one such outing, I encountered a reckless driver. He mistakenly turned right from the left lane and collided with my bike. Though I sustained some minor bumps and scrapes, the UBCO truly emerged a hero.

The bike's sturdy construction played a crucial role in protecting my leg. The foot pedal, positioned just right, prevented serious injury.

The Road to Awareness Continues

These are just a few of the amazing experiences we had on this year's Awareness Drive. The UBCO 2X2 has proven itself to be a valuable companion, facilitating connections, saving the day, and promoting conversation about Angelman Syndrome.
We look forward to hitting the road again soon and continuing to spread awareness for this important cause.

In the meantime, check out my full UBCO review for how we utilise the bike on our awareness drives.

With gratitude,
