OUR STORY

Born in New Zealand

Since day one, our bikes have been built for hard work.

UBCO was born in a farm shed in New Zealand. Daryl Neal and Anthony Clyde, a couple of inventors, had a vision to create an agile, efficient, and practical electric bike to work New Zealand’s tough farm terrain. Together with entrepreneurial co-founder Timothy Allan, they established UBCO and successfully created a new market for their robust electric farm bike.

Today our rugged and versatile bikes serve a diverse range of riders and fleets for work and play; off-road and on-road. With proven products in the hands of individuals and businesses across Australasia, North America and Europe, UBCO delivers robust, safe, easy, and sustainable transport with zero emissions.

Designed Tough

With a singular mission—durable, lightweight electric motorbikes that survive the rugged terrain of New Zealand farms—UBCO became a motorbike of unrivaled utility. Designed and engineered to be adaptable, powerful enough to reach places inaccessible by other vehicles and tough enough to carry equipment and survive extreme environments. With no gears or clutch, no emissions or noise pollution, and a low centre of gravity, UBCO motorbikes are easy to ride – even for beginners. 100% electric, the simple design is easy to maintain, delivering operational efficiency, low maintenance costs, and enhanced user experience through careful attention to usability.

Taking On The World

Established in New Zealand in 2015, a year later UBCO launched the world's first electric-powered two-wheel-drive motorcycle – the UBCO 2X2. The unique all-wheel drive (AWD) bike soon gained traction for use in farming, tourism, hunting, conservation and a range of other off-road applications. In 2017 we expanded to the US market. Shortly after, the unique design, functionality, safety, and sustainability of our product helped fuel UBCO’s successful entrance to the Australian and European markets.

Continuous Development

UBCO is committed to continuous product innovation, consistently evolving our product range. From the introduction of our first off-road 2X2 in 2016; to the on/off-road globally homologated fifth generation 2X2 range in 2021 and subsequent Special Editions; we've pushed boundaries in electric mobility. In 2024 we introduced our latest innovation, the rear-wheel drive DUTY, which boasts a higher speed and greater carry capacity than other UBCO models. Our focus on durability, performance, and versatility continues to guide our product development roadmap.

Sustainability

Manufacturing Capability

Today, through our distribution networks, we supply over 200 dealers worldwide, supporting conservation agencies, law enforcement, farmers, and postal workers with utility-first, safe, reliable, quiet, and easy-to-use vehicles. Our New Zealand headquarters, where most of our team is based, also houses our world-class R&D team. Our strategic partnership with TPK Holdings, a leading electric component manufacturer, provides best-in class manufacturing capabilities, buying power, and the flexibility to respond to customer requests. With supply chains that ensure traceability and component quality, UBCO can expand production capacity over time to fulfil increasing demand from fleet customers globally.

Fleet forward

In 2024 we announced an exciting deal with Australia Post to replace their traditional gas-powered motorcycles with a sustainable, electric alternative. Driven by a commitment to reducing emissions, costs, and enhancing safety for Australia Post’s team members, we designed the DUTY Electric Motorbike. The launch of DUTY, and the Australia Post fleet deal, heralded a shift in strategy for the business to become a leading provider of utility vehicles to fleet customers. Thus, positioning our utility-first vehicles as essential tools for transforming work and delivering operational efficiency for fleets.
